Plan before you spend
Set a monthly amount for each category. The Budget sheet tells you whether income covers the plan, so you can fix it before the month begins.
See what is left, not just what is gone
Left to spend is the expense budget minus what you have actually spent. Categories turn amber at 80% of their budget and red when they go over.
Every month in one file
Change the month on Budget to review any month of the year. Transactions stay in one list, so there is nothing to copy forward.

Set up your categories
Rename the sample categories or add your own. Mark each one Income, Expense or Savings and give it a monthly amount.
Record what happens
Add transactions as they happen or once a week from your bank app. Record refunds as negative amounts in the original category.
Review the month
Open Summary to see income, spending, what is left and how much you saved. Compare months in the year table.

Is this a personal or a household budget?
Either. Use it for one person, a couple or a family. Rename the categories to match how you live; the formulas follow the names you choose.
How do I handle money I move to savings?
Give savings its own category with the type Savings. Transfers count as saved, not spent, so your spending stays honest.
Can I use it for more than one month?
Yes. All months share one transaction list. Change the month on Budget and the Summary shows that month; the year table shows all twelve.
Does it connect to my bank?
No. You type or paste transactions. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is shared; the workbook stays on your device.
How do I keep my changes?
Use Download XLSX or PDF in the editor before closing the tab. Nothing is saved to a server automatically, and your workbook never leaves your device while you edit.
Will it work in Excel and Google Sheets?
The files use standard XLSX formulas without macros, pivot tables or external links. They are checked with the ExcelCraft engine; compatibility with every Excel or Google Sheets version is not guaranteed. Review formulas, charts and formatting in your app before relying on important figures.
Can I change the currency?
Amounts use a $ number format. Change the cell format to your currency; the formulas do not convert between currencies.
